PRE-POST INVENTORY

In the past, clients were assumed to have been rehabilitated, cured or made well by virtue of having completed an assigned or mandated treatment (intervention, counseling or psychotherapy) program. However, this is not necessarily the case, particularly when treatment is court ordered or mandated by a probation officer.

The Pre-Post Inventory is a client (patient) treatment effectiveness or treatment outcome test. The Pre Post Inventory is administered twice: at intake (pretest) screening and again at treatment completion (posttest). The pretest serves as the baseline for posttest comparison.

Judges, probationer officers and others make counseling and treatment referrals. And when treatment is completed the question invariably arises “Was treatment effective?” The Pre-Post Inventory helps answer that question.

The Pre-Post Inventory is designed for pre-treatment and post-treatment comparison.
It is an “outcome” test that addresses client change.

Who administers the Pre-Post Inventory? Some referral agencies, evaluators and mental health professionals administer the Pre-Post Inventory before the client is referred to a treatment (counseling) program and upon treatment completion. In contrast, some treatment programs administer the Pre-Post Inventory as part of their program counseling or treatment intake and treatment completion procedures

The Pre-Post does not interpret, judge or state opinions about treatment program effectiveness or treatment outcome. It simply reports positive or negative changes in Pre-Post scale scores. Indeed, the intent is to objectively report pretest – posttest change.

The Pre-Post Inventory contains 161 items and can be completed in 30 minutes. It is a computer scored self-report test that is administered and scored on-site. Computer generated reports are available within 2½ minutes of data entry

The Pre-Post Inventory has 8 scales (measures):

  • 1. Truthfulness Scale
  • 2. Alcohol Scale
  • 3. Anxiety Scale
  • 4. Drugs Scale
  • 5. Distress Scale
  • 6. Depression Scale
  • 7. Self-Esteem Scale
  • 8. Stress Management Scale

The Pre-Post Inventory evaluates the client’s status in the here-and-now. Pre-Post Inventory scores reflect where the client is at when they are evaluated.
